Front Left is a deeply personal story for me. The genesis of this project stems from a search for belonging, and the dance floors along the way that supported my own transformation. It is inspired by my own profound reckoning with gender and the lifelong sensation of being not a girl but also not a boy.
The visual style of FRONT LEFT is one of hybridity and a unity of opposites. I will contrast a naturalistic approach with staged tableaus and choreography. I plan to achieve this by creating an entire world for the cast and crew to inhabit together. We will construct an environment that oscillates between gritty realness and playful artifice.
Front Left gathers a nuanced landscape of gender queer individuals who have sought refuge from around the world in the Berlin club community. It is here, within the architectural and emotional space of a club, that I delve into the transformative power of feeling seen.
